House Boats

House Boats

House boats in general are, essentially, boats that have been redesigned in such a way that they would serve as homes or, at the very least, accommodations for people. All house boats float, but not all of them are necessarily mobile. Most houseboats, in fact, are moored to a specific spot for the sake of stability and convenience. In the United Kingdom, there have been several boats and ships (used for industrial transport and the like) that have been converted to houseboats when the canals, once used extensively as trade routes during the Industrial Revolution, became part of some of the best recreational areas in territory. There are, in fact, many people in the UK who live in house boats (referred to as liveaboards), and depending on their preference, they would be living in mobile or moored house boats.

House boats in the United Kingdom, of course, are often more ideal for holidays – this is understandable, as living afloat is not necessarily everybody's proverbial cup of tea. Often, house boats are rented for a weekend by the water, or for extended holidays. That being said, house boats are often a wonderful things indeed – they allow you to be as close to the water as possible, in environments that are completely different from the norm.
